Sun 1951 98cc spare parts and colour
« on: October 02, 2014, 11:41:49 AM »
I’m new on this forum, and I’m also from Sweden so excuse my sometimes poor English. I have recently bought a English motorcycle model Sun 1951 98cc with a Villiers motor 1F. And my project for the winter is to restore it to original. My problem is that spare parts for this motorcycle I very hard to find in Sweden. I found some spare parts for my motor in a web shop in England, clutchcork, premier drive chain etc.
I now search for a webshop or else that can supply drive sprockets (front and back) for my motorcycle. (14 teeth’s in front and 48 teeth’s in the back). Or another place where I can find spare parts for my Sun.

http://villiersservices.co.uk - will be able to assist with engine and some cycle parts

http://www.sprocketsunlimited.com - may be able to help with your sprockets

Best of luck  :)

Hi not a lot is known about sun motorcycles and i doubt if you will find a colour code, but most of the post 1950 models were finished in bright maroon as in the picture that you posted. Some models were finished in black as per the Cyclone and the 98cc Hornet was finished in saxe blue. Hope this helps.

Thanks for The help ! I went to a car painter and with his colour charts tried to find the right color. Ral 3007 seems to be The nearest match....

Thank you darloman for very helpful hints. The problem solved, It was a short circuit in an old Cable behind the coil.

It does look like a very smart bike.

Can the front numberplate be mounted along the line of travel,
looks like you would lose a few mph otherwise.

Thank you for the response ! The number sign on the bike is a "Swedish" old number sign and all the older Swedish bikes loks the same. I also think it loks better the "English" way ! With the sign mounted along the front fender. The letter A in front of the number is a region letter. And letter A means Stockholm region where the bike was registred in 1951. Now im waiting for the snow to melt so i can try out my 4,5 horsepower  :D
