Vintage wheel identification

Trying to ID this wheel. Found at a garage sale.

Don't recognise it, though judging from the size and construction of the drum, and the diameter of the spindle, it's off a light weight.

Thanks. I forgot to post the size. Tire is 4.50x18. Rim is 3-1/2" wide with 40 heavy duty spokes.

Hi Steve,

Pretty sure it's Indian Scout, somewhere between 101 (late 1920s) and 741. There are a couple of different hub widths - let us know if you want a positive id. Not often seen in the UK, but not unusual out here in Australia.

Its even got a Goodyear tyre on it.
The evidence is stacking up....

Show the non-brake side.
And what diam is that drum.

Drum inside diameter is 7" and outside flange at spokes is 8-1/2" in diameter.

Close up of hub. I'm assuming this is a front wheel?

I sent the photos to my friend Phil the Indian man. He says "definitely 101 Scout" and "probably 1929". Front of course.

I've respoked a couple of these wheels: the way the inside spokes on the brake drum side lie opposite to each other and parallel is an interesting design idea I've not seen elsewhere.

If it's Indian that should be dead easy, given that anything from Springfield seems to be made of gold..

Well, gold is certainly up in value, so I just have to figure out the best avenue to sell. Maybe ebay, other then the size and weight though. Steve

Take the tyre off. Can then just be posted as a normal parcel.
