Whats this Bike please .
« on: May 19, 2021, 01:58:50 AM »
Hi I have recently purchased a classic 122cc bike from the late 40s early 50s , It was advertised as an Excelsior but in doing some research i believe it may be something else . The Engine number is 763 2798 and the frame number is TUD / 1243 . I have managed to reconnect the ignition system and have spark at the plug .
Bike is located in New Zealand
Cheers Ken

Hi Ken,

Ten years ago our resident Villiers expert 33d6 pointed out that the engine prefix 763 was used on Villiers 10D engines supplied to OEC in 1949-50. http://classicmotorcycleforum.com/index.php?topic=3659.msg12565#msg12565

He might be able to help with frame numbers when he reads this.

Cheers

Leon

Cheers Leon
Its turning into an enjoyable excercise . The frame colour is an interesting shade of green but the internal front brake hub is a maroon colour . I also believe that it hasn't actually done that much run time from the look of the clutch, brakes and bearing grease .

A view of the whole bike could be most helpful !

Graces Guide sez that OEC resumed postwar bike manufacture in 1949 and ceased by 1954.
Take these dates with a grain of salt ?

I suppose the frame is 1949 Excelsior Roadmaster, but I only know this because 33d6 - speaking under another name on another place - told someone else this is where TUD/xxxx belongs! Anyway, the frame looks like said Excelsior: https://cybermotorcycle.com/gallery/excelsior-1949/Excelsior-1949-Roadmaster-R1-4.htm
