The Classic Biker Bar / English drag racing
« on: November 26, 2014, 06:53:47 PM »
Bomber told me he tried sprinting / drag racing and today I watched Motors TV from Santa Pod.Here are the times / speeds for a quarter mile.
Pro Stock   7.19 at182 mph.
Twins, blown Harleys, 6.6 seconds .
Top Fuel   blown nitromethane, 6.05 at over 200mph.
The only time I went to a sprint to watch was at Duxford  where a 500 Rudge managed 14 seconds.
I think it´s gone silly now!

Wanted Bikes / Small Quads.
« on: June 27, 2013, 12:44:47 AM »
Father wants an automatic childs quad to go down the garden to the shed and sort out all his ballraces.
I reckon a runner with a lot of cosmetic damage would be cheaper than buying 2 batteries for his mobility scooter. Anybody got one to sell? Please.

British Bikes / 1938 Rudge Ulster 4 valve.
« on: May 27, 2013, 02:21:32 PM »
I haven´t got one but father decoked one in the 40s and he says he had to drop the engine in the frame to get the rocker box off! Two angled valves, two parallel valves and rockers everywhere. Does anyone know if he´s right?
PS Is Dave Spary still about?

The Classic Biker Bar / Trials on public roads?
« on: May 23, 2013, 12:02:28 AM »
Do many/any motorcycle clubs still run trials where competitors still use/cross the public road?
I presume the Scottish six days and the Scott trial do but most of the trials I hear of are held on private land. It must be much easier to organize and the bikes don´t need tax, insurance or MOT. Do you need a helmet? I´ve not been in Britain for a long time so I can´t just go and see.

Autojumble / Ballraces (not Chinese)
« on: May 06, 2013, 12:14:26 PM »
I have 50 unused ball bearing races to sell. For example FAG no.MS11 = R+M MJ 1 1/8 x2 to fit the driveside crank of postwar Triumph twins Pt No.E1591. Father says 50 quid a pair but I have no idea really. also timing side Pt No.E2877. The rest we must have bought for bikes we had but how can I catalogue them? I´ll see what answers I get and work from there.

British Bikes / Ballraces
« on: April 27, 2013, 02:59:40 PM »
I´ve got a lot of new old stock ball bearings for older British bikes, some still in the boxes greased, others were originally wrapped in a roll of 10 and we´ve only used a few off the roll. How would you feel about using 40 yearold British parts as against new Chinese ones, although some sizes will not be made now we´ve gone Metric?  PS, We had 10 inches of rain here thursday which is why I´m not in my shed.

10 years ago father rebuilt a bullet with new parts where needed from Hitchcocks? He put it in a Lambretta . Now he´s 88 and cant kick it. A scooter lover wont want a mans bike and a biker wont want a scooter so I´ll break it.
FOR SALE. 1954 350 bullet with cables, levers, magdyno, small 5/8 x 1/4 gearbox sprocket, ready to drop in a trials frame. Also modified Lambretta rolling chassis ready to put Enfield Electra in. With sidecar fittings.Sensible offers to reflect low mileage since building. Phone 0843 207 8352 evenings. He is deaf.

The Classic Biker Bar / Tandon Imp
« on: January 21, 2013, 04:34:00 PM »
Does anyone know why Tandon called one model the "Imp"?   it´s not initials so the P  doesn´t stand for Porridge!
Father worked there so we know why.

The Classic Biker Bar / Submitting photos.
« on: January 11, 2013, 11:41:41 AM »
I bought an HP laptop and compatible printer/ scanner 9 months ago. Windows 7. it knows what to do.
I scan large photos, see Sand Racing, and attach them and it reaches this site. Maybe you resize them?
For xmas i got a digital camera and it takes very good photos, I put the card in the laptop and they download into various files, I´m still finding them.
The point is when I attach them your site can´t accept them because they are 4´500 Kb instead of 3000. I never got a book with the laptop, as the man in the shop said, it will do what you ask. It must be simple to compress stuff to send it but HOW? I´ve got some thrilling photos of Spanish porridge to share and I`d love to provoke someone.

The Classic Biker Bar / Indian assembled motorcycles
« on: November 15, 2012, 09:18:49 PM »
The Tandon Milemaster was a bolted up frame construction designed by a Mr Jones from Wales who met Duvdatt Tandon at Tandons Photography shop in the Edgware Road who thought it could be exported to India C.K.D without wheels and assembled there. It didn`t catch on.
Dickie Wright was the designer of the Tandon Imps (named after his car, a 1930s Riley Imp ) He had on his desk some paperwork from Royal Enfield.
In the early 50s a close relation of Mr Tandons (brother-in-law?) a Mr Som was taken to Royal Enfields by my father on the Monday and picked up on Friday.
Mr. Tandon asked father to go to India with Mr Som. Father turned the offer down. at the same time Harry Panniker, another Indian, who had various jobs at Tandons was also asked but wouldn`t go.
Mr. Som went to India alone.

Here`s a photo of two of mine for him. The 125 with the deposito sportique was found in a local wood, robbed of anything that would unscrew.
The 150 was originally black / red but had been painted blue to update it. the pressed frame was very badly cracked and it had been run to death.

I suppose this counts as Classic because men were racing on beaches before tarmac circuits were built. At the first Wallasey meeting of the year  some road racers entered their bikes to try them out. We had a lot of fun, the spectators did too and for free, the west coast usually went right handed, Wallasey, Ainsdale, Pilling. The east coast left handed, just move the sidecar wheel up and back, at Hartlepool, Redcar, Saltburn( a long established venue for record breaking), and Filey with a seawall for good spectator viewing. The straights were half a mile long so you couldn`t see both ends on a flat beach. Actually Wallasey wasn`t flat ,it had channels where the tidal pools flowed back to the sea and at 100 mph on a rigid frame it gave you quite a jolt.
The first time we went to Wallasey in 1967 there were 52 sidecar entries, 4 races of 25 crews in each and whatever survived the grit and sal$%^er in 1 race at the end. Then you had to race the tide to get all your stuff off the beach!
I`ll see how much interest I get and post some more later.
