Thunderbird Colours
« on: March 13, 2009, 10:33:56 PM »
Can anyone help clarify the trim colours of the 1955 Triumph 6T Thunderbird ? The bike is Polychromatic Blue throughout, but I don't know if it had a styling band on the mudguards in gold or not. The photos I have got are either in profile when in colour, or are black and white. The trim may not exist, although most Triumphs had one. The '56 T110 had a black band with white lines either side, on the Polychromatic Blue mudguard. However, the T110 had a black frame and oil tank etc, so that was part of the scheme. The 6T was almost all P-Blue including the frame and all tanks etc, so it may not have had a trim at all. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

hi  iam restoring a 52 tbird almost everything is polychromatic blue and as far as i know there is no pinstriping to the mudguards on that year.going by the info in Harry Wooldridges tbird bible the colours for 1955 were the same as 51 model which is when they changed from thunder blue to poly blue. it only states gold lining to the mudguards when the colour changed to polychromatic grey in 1956.hope this helps steve

Hello, Sorry to contradict (Steve)but there is no doubt that Triumphs all had pinstriping on the mudguards from 1938 on. The Thunderbird in Poly blue was no exception with a THIN gold line going on the side of the mudguard centre rib, ending at the end of the centre rib,not extending around the nose. The swing arm mudguards had the pinstripe joined at the nose straght across.I have had many new old stock mudguards to confirm this.Any queries email me as rigid Triumphs are my specialist subject! regards David
