James Motorcycle Threaded Filler Cap
« on: September 18, 2009, 05:37:32 PM »
Hello, I have an (i believe) post war James Motorcycle and i am looking for a few parts. I will try to post a picture of this bike to go along with this thread.

I need a threaded Filler Cap. The tank is "for sure" threaded and measures 1-3/4 inch to the outside thread. You'll see in my pictures that i have a cap that is "twist on" but too small for my tank.  I also need a headlamp lens, headlamp lens trim and the bike stand.

The James has a 10D 122cc Villiers Engine with a 3 speed gear box.  the frame neck is stamped "L821" and the Villiers is stamped V15 B731 or B7310 (last stamp number is in middle of oil level check hole... tuff to read)

The bike runs sweet and i want to keep it as original as i can... but i need a gas cap.  Any assistance would really help!!
Thanks, Clark      clark_mb11@hotmail.com (sorrry, had to make the pic smaller to fit in this posting)

here is a picture of the filler cap. I am holding a James Cap.... but too small for the tank and not threaded like the tank is.  Oh yeah.... sorry for all the dust on the bike.  I am moving and just took it out of storage.  I want to work on it this winter... again, thank you for your help on this.  Clark

Cheers to you!! Clark.

Glad you have found a filler cap Clark, I thought they may be rare.
I just had a thought, I bet the Vintage Motor Cycle Club might be helpful. They have marque specialists & I am sure they have one for James. Here is another link for you.

Hey Justin good to hear from you.  Again... more info!!  Thanks.  I have had emails with Harry and he has gone through his stuff to find that filler cap. (see above thread)  I'm going to purchase it through him if he care to sell it.  I just can't believe how helpfull this site has been.  Can't wait for the snow to fly now the "project" is getting closer to having all the missing parts.  I will check out that site and thank you again for your effort.  Very kind indeed.
Clark (who thought he would never find that cap!)

Harry, no worries on the time frame with the post office.  When you get the cost for post just let me know.  The "simply wizard" site is a great help. I will spend some time there for sure.  I have not been able to find any James parts here in Canada although i traced who was distributing them back then... but not too many were sold.  I would be interested in the spares ... depending what you have and $$.  The Riley sould cool, my main ride is a 75 (stripped) Goldwing GL1000 with a 1964 Jawa side car attached. The hack was built in Chek Republic (not usa). I re-did the side car with a 16 in wheel and floating disc brake as originally it had no brake system.  It works really well. Low and fat!!  I also ride a honda PC50 moped....the "little honda".  That is my to and from work machine....  Older toys are a great way to spend time.  If you have time to check out what you still have for James let me know.  The headlamp and trim are not a standard size, and like the filler cap, i have not found yet.  Same goes for the center stand.  Brake shoes 127mm (5 inch) would be a great spare!! (if you have) I also could use hand grips and a mirror if original could be found.  Have a great day Harry, talk again soon.  Clark

Harry, hold back on the transfers.  I was guessing on the year of the bike and from your last email (simplywizard) has left me to think i made an error in the decal i chose.  I have a email in to Alan with a picture to confirm.  So i will just order the transfers direct from Bob Derrick when i have it all correct.  I can also paypal direct with him so it's easy and the transfers won't cost much for post (no weight). I did not want to hold you up with the transfer stuff, thanks again for putting me in contact with Bob's company.  I will order from him.  Clark
