TRIUMPH T140E CHANGEOVER MODEL 'BOYER' IGNITION
« on: December 26, 2012, 06:07:50 PM »
Hello, i have purchased a Boyer ignition system for my T140e which because it was a changeover model still had points fitted, the Boyer electronic system i have now got was second hand and did'nt come with any instructions included, the wiring side seems pretty straight forward however i dont know if the timing marks on  the rotor should be used or be a more advanced point on the rotor should be marked up.I have a static bulb indicator and also a strobe i could use.any information on Boyer systems would be welcomed.

the lucas rotor is the advanced mark lines up with pointer inside primmary case , i think the boyer unit is a better bet than lucas over complicated rita system , which used amplifyer box and 6v coils (at least the one i had did) line up the rotor fix the boyer unit . take the plugs out . ignition on turn the back plate and watch for a plug to fire , tighten back plate job done , unless they have alterd it was a few years ago .or in more detail here

I have the paperwork for a Boyer ignition system I fitted to my Triumph.  If you still need a copy I'll scan it and post it.

Thanks for that,i've set the ignition, now i've now got flooding problems with the mk11 amals, although i've fitted new float valves the carbs still want to flood! oh well i was told to stick to Honda's 'onwards and upwards' cheers.

Whoever told you to "stick to Hondas" must be a particularly boring person then. ;)

It is boring, riding round in front! Did Hailwood ever ride a Triumph?

honda carbs can be a right pain also (old cvs expensive to fix ) personaly i think if you have to work on carbs they dont come much easyer than Amal , you must have got something wronge try again .

I do have something in common with Hailwood, i've lost my hair and i love chips! i can tell you that CV carbs can be a problem, in particular if you dont very lightly rub the inner piston cap with scotchbrite and wd40 to get rid of the light corrosion, also on the carbs for a bike like the Honda 500T their is a small spacer ring that holds the needle higher or lower depending on its thickness many people dont know that this ring should be in the carb cap because its been left out for years hence the rich running of the engine, regarding my mk11 Amals i think that the pin holding the float has moved to one side and allowed the float valve to come adrift thus letting the petrol flood out,i will sort it this weekend,i hope!!!
