Help with this one?
« on: August 28, 2013, 07:12:07 PM »
Hello good people,
I will appreciate if You help identify this bike, seller claims it is a Victoria however it does not look like any Victoria I looked on the internet... Gas tank shows logo similar to Jawa and it has very specific forks and no rear shock, it is heavily modified bike for sure. Here are some pictures of it..
Thanks in forward
And yeah... cickstarter on left side so british most likely???

If the frame is from a Victoria your seller could technically be right in calling it a Victoria, regardless of what engine or tank or forks are fitted.
Many State authorities regard the frame or chassis as being the major identifying part of a vehicle regardless of what else has been done to it. Its like a hot rodder saying he drives a '27 T Ford bucket when all that remains of the original '27 T Ford is the chassis rails. The engine, drive train, wheels, etc, etc are all from something else. It's still seen as a '27 T Ford.
Maybe this bike fits in the same category.
Cheers,

There are a couple of things about the frame that make me think it's Horex too, but with the extra cradle tubes bolted on from the front down tube to under the rear of the gearbox. Maybe late 1930s, as most post-war models from Horex seem to have rear suspension - first plunger then swing arm.

The Zundapp KS750 fork is basically a girder fork, but with telescopic-style coil springs hidden inside the top part of the fork legs. Very similar to an upside-down Douglas "Mark" fork.

Yes it is definitely Horex frame and engine, rear suspension and shortened mudguard... owner claims it is 1939 and 350ccm engine.
However, front is something newer by concept and design, You can tell by the look. I like its apearance though got that rat, rockabilly touch to it... If its not overpriced i will take a closer look to it. Thanks to all

Mmm... I'm not sure we've got to the bottom of this mystery yet.

According to Ed Youngblood http://www.motohistory.net/news2008/news-mar08.html :

"The SB35 was a groundbraking model for Horex and became the forerunner for the successful Regina and Resident lines. Approximately 11,000 engines were sold to Victoria in Nürnberg for its KR35 Pioneer, a dispatch-motorcycle for the German army."

If you have a look at a Victoria Pioneer e.g. http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/16535/lot/278/ you see something very close to a Horex - engine AND frame. So it might be that the bike is a Victoria (albeit something like a re-badged Horex).

Now the Zundapp KS750 (the origin of the huge front fork) was a German army sidecar machine http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z%C3%BCndapp_KS_750 , so maybe what we're looking at is a slightly mixed up WW2 German army motorcycle - something like a BSA M20 with AJS teledraulic front fork? Built by some one, some time...

I think you'll have to find an expert on German WW2 motorcycles to get to the bottom of the mystery.

The fork is certainly Zundapp KS750 or similar - just a question of whether the KR35 Victoria military bike ever used it. I suppose it was fitted later.

Good luck. I've certainly learned something from your question! Let us know how you get on.

Engine and frame is definitely Victoria KR35SN, also called "Victoria Pionier" which uses same engine as Horex SB35 (engine was build at Horex Columbus company and sold to Victoria).
Victoria KR35SN has been used also from German Army during WW2.
Victoria did not had the "Horex" logo on the cover plate of the rocker box.

Engine was basis for post-war Horex Regina.
