birmingham motorcycle museum or should i say hotel

Plans went in for this to be a hotel over 25 years ago (I know someone who works for planning) when we were all still fund razing believing this to be a worthwhile charity , am I the only one who feels thieve been taken for a fool here , these plans are now pasted let’s see what happens to the collection . http://www.birminghampost.co.uk/news/local-news/new-hotel-plan-national-motorcycle-6553660

If they are not going to demolish the museum, then no one has been taken for a ride.

Getting permission to build in a green belt may be another matter though, wishful thinking ?

No part of the museum will be demolished but extended and rearranged  to cater for the guests (it’s more a US style motel really) im not convinced displaying machines on some multi teared rotating Christmas tree is what a museum should be considering  but can see this idea being very space efficient when trying to maximise floor area for say a restaurant? Its in a prim location and I understand planning will be granted soon thanks in part to mr pickles . I will watch with some interest as a number of other museums also fall under the control of the same charitable trust . your £20 membership no longer covers friends and family since the chap from the VMCC took the helm in early 2014

It's always been the case. Roy Richards was a genuine enthusiast and the museum is a super resource which can only really exist as it is partly subsidised by the conference facilities.

The square metre I sponsored was still on the plan last time I looked!

this is the same merry hill Richards ? when selling the raffle tickets many years ago I saw no mention of a hotel or conference facility but agree it would have a problem being a museum only , and its hard if not impossible to build a hotel under the charitable trust tax break  , model 10 don't see many of them , I have one also

It would be interesting to compare notes on the Mark 10......

I remember that the NEC was implacably opposed to the museum complex as they wanted to have a monopoly on conference facilities in the area.

For 1931 you could have a Model 90 with a choice of coil or hair pin valve springs. No doubt the design of the Model 10 head also allowed this possibility.

They're helpful photos and show the layout of the valve lifter which I expect I'll need to make.
