Bronze carbs in Australia

should I say carby?

On ebay 142230752614 there is a bronze amal carb with a NOS body allegedly made by "Allsports" in australia.

Can any of you down under chappies  cast any light on it?

Allparts (note the name) built (licenced ?) Amal carbs in bronze, in considerable quantities sometime around the war years. No makers markings or stampings, not plated either, just bare bronze.
Considered to be quite good quality too, excellent machining,
although the castings tended to be a little rougher/coarser.
Helped alleviate a spares shortage, and kept many a bike on the road.
A number of bikes today still use them, if you you keep an eye on such things...

That one looks to have been bead blasted, takes away the natural bronze colour.
Maybe the 'patina' will come back in time ?

R is spot on.
If you relied on the British factories to provide spares you'd be dead and buried before they arrived so many parts were made locally. Allparts made a whole range of them, carbys were just one item. The carb  bodies were sand cast hence the rougher finish but that doesn't affect the performance of the carb. There's nothing special about them, they were just bog standard parts you bought over the counter.

Shame, I was hoping it was a currently made part. I have been on the lookout for an 1 3/16 brass body for some time now to combat the dreaded ethanol pox from our "green" fuel.

I'm sure, looking at prices the brass carbs fetch that there would be a market for them.
