FREE The Classic Motorcycle Mags all 1981 - 1988
« on: June 29, 2021, 04:00:39 PM »
Hi,
Free to collect every unread and bound issue of The Classic Motorcycle Magazine from the first (June/July 1981) to end of 1988, including 1 spare first issue, 83 mags in all.

The 'unread' may sound odd but I had a friend in the wholesale publications business and he used to get me two issues for the price of one so I had one to read and a spare to save. Six original binders.

Free to collect from Southsea (Portsmouth).
I'd rather not pulp them but they are too heavy to ship.

Regards,
    Chris

Mags from back when the encyclopedic Bob Currie was the editor.
I've got the same years up in the loft (along with many others) and I expect they will all go for recycling one day. :-\

With Libraries and Googles penchant for scanning things, hopefully they will all be online someday.
I don't know how this will sit with copyright.

Probably when petrol is a long forgotten commodity !?

Hmmm, 50 years, might be next week ?

The VMCC's intention to scan everything they have has run into copyright problems already. That and the fact that the task must be both Herculean and mind-numbingly boring..

My local library (Worcestershire) "lends" a whole stack of magazines including classic bike, classic motorcycle etc etc and keeps about 2 years back copies. It's free but only seems to run of smartphones / tablets and I can't see a way of extracting any material other than a screen grab.

I can't see them going any further back but for tightwads like me a good alternative to buying the mags.

I have been trying for years to give away loads of old bike mags.

too heavy to send, I'm too far out in the sticks for collection, recycle bin will get them one day.
I had 20 yrs of Motorcycle sport though which went to France, but anotehr  5 years of French  classic bike magazines were binned years ago.

I did offer some of those to one of our french bike irritants that pop up on here from time to time, but that one was too mean to pay postage on them  to Bournemouth.

tomorrows toilet paper really.  But if you have a log burner, roll them up tight and chuck them in.

Worst bit is the inevitable $%^ who asks 2do you have issue containing articles about whatever and cut that out for me as the postage will be cheaper."

I kept mine on the basis that they were a good reference source, but now I have far too many to scan through to find something worthwhile and I can find better info on the net in an instant.
Back in the first lockdown I was offered years of bound Classic Bike mags. I only took the first year as I'd never read them, but wondering what they could be worth I looked up on Ebay to find a similar first years bound volume that was on for a tenner and it didn't sell.
Actually they would be worth a tenner just to see the letters knobs  used to write to bike mags back in 1978...

Go back to 1960s motorcycle for a laugh, and 1950s ones for some pompous twerps [I say twerps because I can't say T double you  ay tea on here].

I still have every Motorcycle weekly magazine I ever bought right back to the very first in 1963, if nothing else they have provided bedding and nourishment for the rats in the shed.
