The Classic Biker Bar / Aberdale near done!
« on: January 04, 2018, 08:55:45 PM »
I have all but finished the restoration of my aberdale.
I know you would not expect much power from such a motor but I sense it is lacking power, it will wind up speed on the flat but slowly dies on any up hill climbs. could this be because the timing is out?

finally took a picture, as you can see the hole just below where the brake rod couples there is hole on a tag, it must have been designed for something.
I had it running last night, took it for a spin around the block. it wouldn't keep up with my BMW! but it goes ok.

Hi, been busy and only just got back to read replies. thank you.

i can only assume the tail light is original, it has two wires coming out the back  and two contact points for a twin element globe. I don't believe the bike ever had a rectifier and was only ever direct wired from the magneto. An Interesting thing is on the brake shaft that crosses through the frame to the brake rod there is a lever cast into it with a hole at the top that I suspect some how possibly connected to a switch. I will post a pic later today.

After a few hours of searching I have concluded AAU prefix is for an Aberdale! Its believed less than 2000 were manufactured with the highest number recorded of 1328. http://www.icenicam.org.uk/articles/art0006.html

Morning,
Both frames are different, the frame without the motor and front wheel has two stars on the head tube. the bike with the engine has no stars, it also has handlebar levers that point forward from the end of the bars.

Hi folk
Just thought i would do an intro!
A few weeks ago i bought an Excelsior, I have already stripped it apart. Thanks to this forum i have identified it as a 1950 model as the frame Number starts  with  DS.
I need a few things and was wondering if  someone here can advise!
I need
A the little  speedo right angle gear box that fits the brake hub.
Tank knee pads
And the little spring steel plate and knob for the clutch adjustment
