If it has been stood for some time I would suggest that you change the petrol you may need to clean the carb as well. "Modern" petrol tends to go off

I had a problem like this on my 1951 Norton Big4 until it was fixed I used to get the plug out, using a pencil I used to put graphite on the plug points without bridging the gap it would usually the start and run ok.The problem is probally condenser failure on the mag they will operate ok when cold  but not when the engine is hot .My Mag was repaired and I don,t have the problem anymore. If you are in the UK I can advise you of a bloke who repairs  Mags in the West Midlands.

Putting the bush in the frezzer and warming up the steel will help but as said do not over heat the steel, try the oven if your wife will let you.

Hot starting problems are usually caused by the Mags condenser failing I had this problem on mine, try getting the plugs out putting some pencil grafite on the plug contacts without bridging them this will give a bright spark when you kick the engine over.I had to do this for quite some time until I had my mag reconditioned

Hayley

You were loking for a MOT place that could deal with your Royal Enfield I would recomend Hartills Motorcycles Caladonia Street,Bilston,West Midlands 01902 492481.The guy doing the MOTs is Fred Basterfield who I have know for many years his experience with older bikes is excellent.

British Bikes / Re: Norton 16H - Rear Stand Spring
« on: March 30, 2009, 11:01:15 PM »
I forgot to say get the rear end in the air so that the stand can be down you will find that the spring should be easy to get on then.it only in tension when the stand is in the up poistion.

Strech the spring or bend, it put washers into the gaps so that the spring is lengthened. With the stand bolts removed put the spring on the lugs then using a bit of strength line the pivot holes up insert the pivot bolts pull the stand down and all the washers etc in the spring remove if they havn,t fallen out when you pulled the stand down.
