when I disconnect the coil/condenser (soldered together) the bulb goes out when gap opens I have been told the magento coil allows current through hence the bulb always being on & getting dimmer when points open, as I have only tried this method on magentoless triumphs I was foxed by the continuosly on bulb. many thanks for your help, best regards Dave

I am trying to set the points gap on a villiers 2 stroke engine, I am trying to use the good old bulb & battery method. when I connect to either side of the points the bulb lights up. problem is it stays alight! it gets dimmer when points open. I thought the idea was that when the points open no contact would be made & the bulb would go out. I have fitted a new coil & cleaned off excess oil that might be causing conduction from the mica insulating plates. anyone out there got any ideas as to why bulb stays alight. regards Dave
