It states for a BSA M20 of years 1955-1956: Amal 376/021, 1" bore, main=240, needle=0,11, position=3, pilot=30, cutaway=5
And on a BSA M20 of 1957-1959 it states a Amal 376/087 with equal specs

Hi Guys,

In the Netherlands the no1 specialist in magneto's (and dynamo's and alternators and rectifiers and ..) is Theodole,

As long as it's vintage, Theodole will rebuild or fix it, and - although he ain't the cheapest - he has a very good service record, as I've experienced myself as a happy customer of Theodole. (rebuild Lucas K2F and free service more than 2 years with complete re-testing and adjuistments)
PS Theodole also supplies postordering in UK, and I would be much surprised if he's not able to supply you the replacementparts you're looking for.

Hi Steven,

In my '50 Norton (model 7 Dominator) I use Miller's Millerol SAE 40 or 50 in as well as engine as gearbox. For me SAE 50 works fine, but then again I don't drive below say 5 degrees Celsius. Engine has sufficiently pressure (oilpump new in 2007, though) and gearchanges go smoothly.
For the oilbath I use Milleroil SAE30; clutch works fine (no slippery) and leakage form the oilbath are well within my standards.

I'm sure that e.g. Castrol has equivalent oils. Be aware for detergents (in the Netherlands we call it "doped oils") for they might loosen up sludge from the crank and bearings and there's no filter within, is there?
No multigrade adviced, because the molecular strings appear to get broken and the result is a far to low viscose oil. (Becomes too thin)

Are these tips any good to you?

Hi Henry,

As I'm a Dutchman, I've had my mag (K2F, broken armature) rebuild by Theodole (nickname King of Darkness), a near-to-famous rebuilder of various kinds of mags and dyno's. Not the cheapest, but indeed very good service and garantee (and I can confirm this from my own experiences). See e.g. his website

In the UK I believe Independent Ignition Supplies is well established. Apart from spareparts for your K2F, they also provide services like rewinding and overhauling. See their website

Hi Norton55,

I don't know whether or not my bike has its original tacho, but my Model 7 is fitted with a Smiths S467/3/L  (sometimes found on the internet as "S4673L"), 0-120 mph. As your '52 model 7 will most likely be plunger framed, and my Domi is a 1950 and thus plunger framed, this tacho type might be the one...

PS: I believe this tacho is also fitted on Triumph and BSA twins of that era.

Hi Blue,

Perhaps some help from the South-West of The Netherlands. My clubmagazine "The Unapproachable" (Norton Club Netherlands) recently supplied some details about K2F magnetos.
AC is for several twins of 1948-1957, such as Ariel KH, BSA A7/A10, Matchless Super Clubman, Norton 7 (= my bike), 77, 88, 99.
RO is for Triumph 5T, 6T, T100 & T110 of 1955-1957.
And if ye really want to know, contact Theodole in The Netherlands (theodole-king-of-darkness@planet.nl), a well know Lucas specialist in The Netherlands.

Have you got a serial number, e.g. 42111A, beside the AC or RO mark? It'll give more detail about the bikes the K2F is meant for.

It´s quite hard - if not meaningless -  to give any estimate on price-ranges on vintage bikes. Type of bike, year of delivery, matching frame- and engine-numbers, authentity (carbs, tank, frame, seat etc etc) and quality overall can make the price vanish to nothing or can even drive it up to any price if in showroom conditions. In Dutch (as I am): It's what the crazy guy will offer that makes the price. (There's probably a better English idiom for this, but I ain't got it at hand...)
Anyway: with Internet (Google or so) searches you'll get quite some indications of prices of the bike you're going for, and various auction lists might get you on the way for any give BSA, Norton, AJS/Matchless, Ariel, Velocette etc. E.g.
