I've now found the frame and engine numbers and it seems that this Velocette is a MSS, which came out of the Hall Green factory in 1956, although it does seem to have had some modifications in it's time because going from various photos I've now looked at, the Brakes look much more like those on a Venom rather than standard MSS for the year.  Sorry if you got excited Rex, but it still may be worth me having my first ever a punt on the lottery  ;)  Max

Hello All from a newbie,

My great passion is restoring cars so I normally spend much time on classic car forums but like many "older" people, I cut my teeth in the 50s on motor cycles, which included a Velocette Venom.

Today, as luck would have it, I recovered a very sad looking Velocette from a derelict building, which looks very much like my old Venom but that was a long time ago so I'm not sure and I would therefore appreciate some help. I suppose the frame or engine number would help and I would be pleased if someone could tell me where I can find these numbers on the bike and how to identfy the model from the numbers if this is possible.  I feel another restoration job coming on so I will have to add this forum to my list!   Many thanks in anticipation.
