British Bikes / 1939 Norton Model 18 kickstart (again)
« on: October 21, 2012, 05:07:52 PM »
Hi again, another question about this kickstart, I re-filled with oil as per the last response and started it and the kickstart dropped to the floor so I took the gearbox out to replace the bearings when I found the return spring had twisted and come out of its slot, I held the kickstart shaft and turned the output shaft with a drill and it stayed where it should but if I turned it slightly I could feel it dragging. Now my questions are is this how its supposed to work or do the bearings need replacing also is there supposed to be something other than the chrome shaft cover to hold the return spring in place in the slot or have I got something missing. I hope I'm not boring you with this,
Cheers Tim.

British Bikes / Norton Model 18 kickstart
« on: October 14, 2012, 06:52:30 PM »
Hi, this is my first post so hello all, I have several classic bikes, but I've just dug out my 1939 Norton Model 18 and started it up after a few years of inactivity and then remembered why I haven't used it for a while, when its running the kickstart lever falls to the floor but its fine when it not running. I've replaced the spring and re-tensioned it on the shaft, but its still no good. Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance, Tim.
