Identify these bikes! / Grandpa's Vintage Ride

Hello all, I found this picture of my grandfather on his motorcycle awhile back and ever since have been trying to figure out what it is. Any thoughts? I have been told possibly pre-war BSA or DKW. Did some research of models from that time period and probably the closest match I could find is a DKW RT 100. Can anyone verify this? I know the picture is not the best angle but it's all I've got. Any insight whatsoever is appreciated. Thanks!
