That bike is a Henley or an early New Henley i think. New Henley replaced Henley when they went tits up in 1925. Mind you, New Henley went tits up in 1930.

If this is related to your bike at all, the decompressor cable goes down
into the crankcases between the 2 pushrod tubes.

There is some gubbins inside that crack the exhaust valve open a trace.
To give easier starting and that all important stopping function.
The decompressor lever is usually a little trigger-like lever near the clutch lever.
Hopethishelps.

1928 New Henley 350cc

Morning all.

Having spent nearly 10 years restoring my 1928 New Henley, and waiting for 5 years for 1 piece of the jigsaw, I finally got it started over the weekend.

Now that she's running, what is the best way to stop her running, apart from putting my hand over the intake. There's no wired electrics on this bike.

Thanks

I had a chap from The Classic Motorcycle club visit me to confirm the bike for registration and he confirmed it was a Sturmey Archer. I have a Burman gearbox fitted to the bike just as was fitted back in 1928.
The bike is a New Henley 1928.
If i could get or afford a J.A.P 350cc in would. I don't think the casing is the original one as its been repaired.
Getting back to the original question! What would the timing settings be?
Very interesting conversion all the same.

Here you go 33d6. Engine numbers in photo. 3423, 16H

My dad bought it many years ago for a project. Sadly he got cancer and lost interest before he could start it. After 3 battles in 15 years he lost the last battle. He passed it onto me with no info at all. Sadly i know little about SV timing. I'm still learning as are we all i'm sure.
Ta for the help all.

Has anyone got the valve clearance, points settings etc for my SA 350cc side valve engine.
It's not been started in a long time and i believe the settings where wrong.

Thanks chaps.

I don't know the history of the SV engine. It's been sitting in a garage for years and yes, this is the way i got it.
I will try what R has suggested.
Thank you.

Hi All.
Need some help. I have a 350cc Sturmey Archer engine in my New Henley and its very hard to turn over. It does turn over but it's too tight to kick.
What could be the problem. I have drained out the oil and refilled it but it's still the same. I can just about hand turned the engine sprocket but it's
very tight even with the spark plug out. All it seems to do is mess up my kick start ratchet teeth.
Any help is most welcome.

British Bikes / frame numbers

Hi All
Anyone got a way of uncovering the frame numbers on a very old rusted frame.
I can just about make out 3 out of 4 numbers.
Any help is gratefully appreciated.

Thanks R

It should be a 350cc JAP OHV but as usual with restorations it's hard to find and then hard to justify the price.
If i do ever get a JAP engine i will fit it.
The rider was, Dennis Z de Ferranti. He got 2nd cos the rider that finished 2nd was disqualified.
Who cares tho, The record books say 2nd.  :)

The other reason for the 13 plate is Road Racer Lee Johnston(#13) is my 2nd cousin and i mentioned to him at the NW200 a few years back about the project.
I asked him if i finished it off and got it over to the Classic TT would he do a lap and he said if he could he would.
