British Bikes / Villiers MW Carb
« on: September 03, 2019, 07:06:01 PM »
Has anyone had experience with the Villiers MW 2 lever carb?
I have one on a 1936 Francis Barnett.
The bike although old has done  little work. The jet and needle is correct according to the book.
If I set it to idle correctly it's trying to 4 stroke when on the last 1/4 throttle.
If I set it not to 4 Stroke it's weak at idle and slow to get away.
I was wondering what part the 2 Compensating tubes play in this?  I assume they let air in .
Would changing these for smaller make it richer at low revs?
Thanks Ken

I am in need of a MW brass bodied carb to for a FB Cruiser 39. 1936.
Just the body will do.
Inlet to the right with the tickler towards you and threaded fuel inlet away.
Threaded end for strainer.
Thanks

It does seem they are hard to find at least in he size I need here in the Uk

I just sanded down 24 for my other plate that is smaller and that was easy enough. Just need these large ones now.

Thanks Ken

That did cross my mind. Guess used corks would be OK.

Thank you

I have one and they will touch that sort of speed in fact the road test is high 70s I think.

But

They are not a brilliant engine. Get hot if used hard and then blow by and make crankcase pressure and leak oil.
Some seem better than others. Sweet little thing if used carefully.

45 to 50 is a better cruising speed.

The rear drives were weak but I think they detuned the engine to take the load off it.
So if kept full of oil should be ok.

On my 1936 bike the gearbox has a mixture of grease and oil as it don't use seals. I have found a modern grease that just flows and made for gearboxes that will be ideal for this.
Have a little extra.

Hello
I sum searching for the small filter that fits inside the fuel Union to the carburettor on a Villiers MW Mk2 carburettor.
This in on a FB Cruiser 39.
No longer available so wonder if anyone has an old one.

Thanks Ken
