amal 376 carb query
« on: April 27, 2009, 08:48:05 PM »
hi folks put the tank on the b40 im finishing filled it with petrol conected to carb, turned the fuel tap on and it leaked from the float bowl end, no problem, sealed it up with black fuel gasket sealant, tried it tonight and now fuel comes out of the tickler, everything inside the carb is brand new, anyone know what would cause this? float not coming up maybe? many thanx in advance mark.

Either the float height is set far too high or more likely, the float is being prevented from rising enough to shut off the juice. Usual causes are incorrect assembly of the float area, gasket too large holding the float down, tickler pin set too low or stuck down, etc.

Of course, I'm surmising that there's no crap on the float valve seat and the the float is err, floating....

Make sure that the float needle is in good condition and fitted correctly, and that the float is not punctured.

Make sure that nobody has bent the brass float lugs, so that the float does not come high enough in the chamber to shut off the fuel from the tank, causing fuel to come out of the tickler.
