What is this bike?

Can anyone identify the bike in this great photo?

It would seem to be an early ' Merkel' (later 'Flying Merkel') Merkel can be seen on the tank I think?

You are right!  I've just looked at the original picture which is much larger and it definitely says "The Merkel".  Thanks or your help!
