BSA C15 Free Play Wheel Bearing and Slight Wheel Misalignment
« on: February 03, 2010, 11:13:49 PM »
Hi All.

After Successfully doing up and selling my BSA Bantam D7, I have Bought a 1966 C15. The last MOT advises

Wheel Alignment Slightly Misaligned.

Front and Rear Wheel bearings have slight Free play.

Front Brake has slight Fluctation of brake effort.

Rear brake has a slight grabbing.

any advise on how to best check the above problems and how to remedy them if need be?  ???

thanks

Paulo

Check the wheel alignment yourself, it may just need adjusting. If adjusting the rear wheel does not do the job then check to see that the front & rear wheels have all the correct spacers & washers assembled in the right order & also check to see that the frame &/or forks are not bent. It is also a good idea to make sure the wheel offset is correct, if not this can be altered by adjusting the spokes (Contact someone like Central Wheels who may be able to tell you the correct offsets front & rear).
The wheel bearings may need replacing if there is to much free play.
The brakes will need to be stripped & examined. The brake drums should be checked for ovality (especially the front one) & skimmed if needed. Check the brake linings to make sure they are in good condition. Grabbing brakes can usually be cured by chamfering off the leading edge of the brake lining with a file.

Hope this is helpful
