BSA B31 1946 Colour codes and schemes???
« on: November 29, 2010, 02:23:49 PM »
Hi all, Im new to BSA and this site, live in Czech republic and imported one from UK. It has matching numbers, but apart from that, its in quite poor condition. Tank is painted metallic silver???
So Im planning to restore it back to original state. Its mainly new paint what it needs. Cables, battery and hopefully pillion seat will try get on ebay.
I need advice where to find original colour schemes and color codes. But any B31 site welcome. Also, by numbers can I found out what was original colour? Thanks for any advice.

Hi and welcome to the forum and to BSA, B31 nice bike. It seems that the silver paint colour on the tank is correct. According to the book BSA Gold Star and other singles by Roy Bacon the colours for 1946 are " Chrome plated tank with matt silver panels lined in black. Winged BSA badge on tank side. Wheel rims matt silver with black lining. Brake plates chrome plated. frame, forks, headlamp shell, mudguards, oil tank, toolbox, chaincase and chain guard all black." All the best with the project.

quite frankly I don't get it. Is this the bike you are talking about in "quite poor condition"? What needs restoring here? Ride and enjoy and sod the original color scheme is my opinion!

How could "silver" (with red panels) be "correct" for the tank-if it is supposed to be "Chrome plated with matt silver panels lined in black"?

Because the silver area should be chrome and the red area should be black.

Because the silver area should be chrome and the red area should be black.

So hardly "correct"? And the red area should be silver (lined black) not black.

The website with the 1946 B31 photo I posted above appears to have gone off-line, so here's another.
