Royal Enfield Oil

Hi all,

I have Royal Enfield Crusader 250 and i'm not sure what engine oil to put in it? (It has a unit construction engine).

Does anyone know what oil I should use?

Also I've read an article in a classic bike magazine which comments on how leaded fuel is not needed in vintage bikes? Is this true or shall I still add lead additive to the mix for safety?

Hi

You can use a 20w50 oil in the Crusader but you will need to use a classic or motorcycle specific oil, as on the Crusader the engine oil also feeds the primary chaincase and a modern 20w50 will cause clutch slip.

As for leaded petrol, there has been a lot of scaremongering and people making money from unneeded conversions, you can quite safely use unleaded.

I use 20w50 mineral, manual says that SAE40 or SAE30 would do.
