Hi All,
New to the forums as Imabout start the restoration of my dad's old '69 BSA Royal Star. It had formally been waiting patiently in the bike shed at my Grandparents place for the last 15-20 years and I finally managed to get the ol' man to give up the ghost!
The bike shed was a leaky old thing and so the bikes not in the best of condition, but the engine still turns over, so the pistons aren't seized and the frame is in good condition, with only minor surface rust. The fenders are in ok condition as well...the wheels not so much. New ones or a re-chrome/powerder coat will definitely be needed.
As for electrics, they had been completely removed and were about to be replaced with a more up-to-date rig, and from what I've read so far, thats not a bad thing
What I'd like to know now is what types of things would be good to concider in terms of modern updates/solutions to original problems are there. Or perhaps some nugets of wisdom on engine maintance, such as replacing a troublesome bearing or bushing etc. etc.
Any and all suggestions are welcome as this will be a 100% tear down and rebuild.
Regards,
John
