If you didn't find any then it may be wiser not to fit any?

As O-rings were not fitted to the '66 models, according to the '66 parts book.
 
Later models did have an O-ring fitted but only below the exhaust guide block, and that later exhaust tappet guide block part number is different to the '66 one.

Haynes manual? Beware - they can be quite general about some important details. For instance, according to my Haynes manual, all unit 650s prior to the introduction of the disc front end  were fitted with a twin leading shoe front brakes. The phrase 'I wish' often comes to mind when I'm trying to stop my 1965 Bonnie....

Henry have you got the half width brake drum? If so you can improve the performance no end by making a new brake arm 1" longer than the original, great fun filing a square hole, but it's worth it.

No, mine's a 57 on full width, and I've never used one that's been much good. They do look good though - really neat. I've been toying with the idea of engineering a TLS conversion into the hub, keeping the mechanism inside the drum so the brake plate looks standard. If it works (and I'm not saying it can be done by the way) it would mean  I keep the nice clean front end without the rather scary (exciting) braking.  ;)

Thanks to L.A.B and Henry on advice given for O rings on guide blocks.  I got a 3rd opinion from Len (Len Craig and Sons Norfolk) who confirmed not required on 66 model, back together no problem, running well and passed the MOT here today in Belfast. Just shows not to always follow the Haynes Manual! Cheers Guys

Congratulations art! I'm afraid I wasn't much help but it does prove it pays to treat all bike literature with a pinch of salt. Anyway, enjoy the ride  ;)
