Has it gone too far
« on: March 28, 2008, 04:34:47 AM »
Hi guys

I am restoring a 1950 Royal Enfield Model G and I have a few problem areas.

The first one I will ask advise on is the tank.
Below you can see that the Chrome tank i badly rusted, it seem solid but I am unsure if it can be stripped and rechromed, any opinions or advice on where to take it (I'm in Wigan)

Many Thanks
Mark

You may just get away with it but the tank will be thin and weakened and some pits are likely to be visible, particularly as the painted panels on the Enfield are quite widely spaced.

George Cohen on his Norton site suggests a solution using two different shades of silver / metallic grey. it seems to work quite well and gives the illusion of being original.

Mark,

If you do go down the route of a new tank, I'll buy your old one if you dont need it. I need a tank to paint for my Model CO so the pitting isn't a problem.

Cheers, Chris.
