1960 Tiger 110 wiring help please
« on: June 16, 2008, 04:10:29 AM »
Hi
Just bought combined regulator/rectifier, to replace diode etc.  it has 4 wires
2 yellow to alternator ,1 red to earth, and 1 black.
The black is for the neg.side of the battery but should it go to the ampmeter first ? because the ampmeter only shows discharge when running ? I know the alternator is putting out 14v.  If so which side of the ampmeter and does the wire then come back to the battery ?
As you can gather i am no electrition !

It should only be necessary to make one black wire connection to the negative wire from the control box, and I would suggest you connect it on the side of the ammeter that is furthest away from the battery?
Unfortunately I don't know what other changes have been made in order to upgrade to 12V as some wiring changes would be necessary, such as the need to join the correct two of the three alternator output wires together, the third lighting output wire also has to be re-routed, so I can't comment on the apparent ammeter discharge indication, without knowing more about how the electrical system has been altered?.

I've got one of those combi regulator/rectifiers on one of my bikes and my ammeter does exactly the same (negative charge when running). It was fitted by the previous owner and I never got around to looking at it. If it's any help, the bike runs absolutely fine. HN

Hi i have one of those new voltage regulators fitted to my 57 thunderbird running 12 volts,it is wired as follows and does show positive charge at ammeter. 2 yellow wires to alternator, red to earth positive. i extended the black wire negative and wired it direct to the ammeter negative side. Hope this is of some help Regards Steve

Oh,while fitting this new thingy i discovered my classic solutions coil was faulty ?
Yes labeled 12v but actulaly 6v  (a faulty batch )
So if you have one check it is not getting hot ! !
or check the resistance should be 4 homes ? or more
any less could be a 6v one .
