smiths chronometric rev counter
« on: June 23, 2008, 08:59:48 PM »
Hi have a smiths chronometric rev counter model number rc 83 which i was going to fit to my 57 thunderbird but it appears the drive rotation is wrong ie anticlockwise should be clockwise ?does anyone no what model number is correct for pre unit triumphs,or is it possible to have this unit modified to run in the right direction. Thanks Steve

An alternative could be to find an opposite rotation drive gearbox?
As there were  "reversing" and "non-reversing" drive boxes.
Different drive box ratios were also available, such as : 1:1, 2:1 and 4:1.

Thanks LAB. i had not thought of that, the timing cover i have is a standard cover with the gearbox added to it so it would be easy to change, do you know of a supplier of the gearbox units. Regards Steve

I must admit I don't know of anybody who sells the drive boxes, or even if there are any new ones to be had at all?
It may be a case of having to contact people who sell used Triumph parts, or hunting for one at autojumbles?

Thanks again LAB. i will ring around i am sure this will be a better option than trying to replace the rev counter or have it modified. Regards Steve
