1979 triumph bonneville t140e hard to start
« on: July 09, 2008, 12:19:24 PM »
i have a stock 1979 triumph t140e with electronic ignition.  i ride it everyday around town(about 40 miles). usually it starts up with one kick, even if it has been sitting for a few days.  after a 150 mile trip the other day, i have been having troubles starting it . i kick it and kick it, but it just wont start up.  once started though, it rides fine and holds an idle fine.  starting it up once it is warm is no problem either, just a single kick. i put in new plugs today, but saw no change ( champion n5c).

i think it is running a bit rich because the plugs i replaced had black carbon on them.

usually i push down the cold start lever when i turn it on, but now it will only start up if i dont  push it down.  when it is pushed down, the bike doesnt even come close to starting up.

is it too rich?  would leaning it out help me start it easier? the screw that adjusts the richness was very easy to turn on one of the carbs, but  more difficult on the other.  im not sure if that means anything though.

also, what temperature should my motor be running at?

thanks for any help.
my leg is killing me from kicking on that bike
