Hello and I would be grateful for any information on the following topic. I am trying to decipher the 5 digit engine number stamped on Stevens of Wolverhampton engines.
I know that the last 2 numbers are the year of manufacture, but I am confused about the other 3. I had thought that the first two may be the unit or piece number followed by the number of the month. 3 for March, 6 for June, etc.
But the piece or unit numbers are too high for the number of engines that were presumed to be made.
However, perhaps the numbering system included the Ajax engines made for AJW.
I would therefore be grateful if any AJW owners could comment on their engine numbers.
