Morning all, what are these bikes?
« on: September 29, 2008, 10:05:38 AM »
Hello all!
Here's a challenge for you...

My nan's shown me these two photographs, of which we have no idea of what they are.
If anyone could shed some light i'd very much appreciate it.

See the two images attached below, and good luck!  :)

Regards,

Brad

And the second and final photo....

I have larger resolution scans, but they're not any better in quality and they're roughly 2.5mb in size each!  :-/

The bottom bike is a single-cylinder Ariel Red Hunter, circa-1950 ish.  With the telescopic forks it's definitely post-war, but I'm not the full bottle on Ariel singles.  I've got some Ariel info here somewhere I'll dig up to try and date it more accurately (the rigid rear end and distinctive tank-badge should help), or unless someone else beats me to it.  I couldn't say for the scooter in the top photo.

I'm fairly sure the first one is a Brockhouse 'Corgi'

Hi Morning all,the first photo is certainly a Brockhouse Corgi made by Brockhouse Engineering based in Southport Lancs. If I remember correctly the design was based on the wartime Wellbike which had an Excelsior engine whereas the Brockhouse machine had a Villiers engine Harry.

I agree, it is a Corgi with I think a Villiers 'Spryte' engine. The Welbike had a 98cc Villiers Junior engine and was built by Excelsior.
