BSA B31 clutch removal
« on: July 08, 2009, 08:41:19 PM »
hi, can anyone tell me if my 1954 bsa b31 plunger engine is covered by the haynes pre unit singles manual, I am trying to remove the clutch to get at the gearbox sprocket and I can't undo the centre nut, it doesn't help that some previous owner has welded what looks like the tab washer, I have managed to chop the weld but the nut although loose on the gearbox shaft will not undo, I don't think it's a left hand thread, any advice appreciated

Hi,

I'm sure it is covered by the manual. I had the book when I owned a B33. I'm afraid I passed the manual on with bike though so I can't look it up. The tab washer could be splined to fit on the shaft which might stop it coming off.

Thanks, for your interest, I've now done it, made a locking tool to hold the clutch inner and outer, the weld was still holding the centre nut, but finally gave with a bit of persuasion,
