Montesa Cota 200 and new member
« on: April 24, 2009, 09:51:33 PM »
Hi
Im a new member here and have just purchased a Montesa Cota 200 in astonishingly good condition for its 27 years.
Can anyone help me with the petrol oil mixture ratio ,i have purchased 5litres of fuel how much oil should i add to this and can anyone please explain how to set up the Amal carb.
The bike only requires a clean up to bring up to a high standard and i really cant  believe my luck in finding it,once completed i hope to join a club and enter a beginners trial or too but have not had one response over on trials central which i find rarther disappointing.
Maybe they think im too old at 45 or my bike isnt expensive enough i really dont know
Anyway enough from me and over to you yours Mark.
P.S can anyone explain what the four little rubber flag like items are for slid over the fork stanchions  between the top and bottom yolks.

Hi Mark,
I'm no expert on this model but whatever the ratios were when it was built will not be the same now. Modern fuels and synthetics oils are much more efficient with less smoke etc. As a start point I would suggest a 50:1 ratio, which is 20 ml of oil per litre but I would suggest you contact these people who may be able to give more informed guidance:-  http://thetwinshockshop.co.uk/index.html

The bits on your forks, could they be for attaching a competition number plate?

Cheers.
