BSA C15 Sportsman '66 -'67. Correct Carb???

After correcting ignition problems, i have now turned my attention to the carb. This has been burning rich since i first got it. I have been plagued with a bad to none existent tick over. I have spent hours tuning the carb but to no end. The Engine is a C15SG *** on as 66 plate?? The carb on it is a 376/231. This is for a Franny B Falcon as far as i am aware! Would a 2 stroke carb affect performance in such a way

The Amal site doesnt list a carb for a Sportsman. Does anybody know the Correct carb for this Model???

The Amal site on the internet says 376/281 for your bike. The carb. seems OK, but you have probably got the wrong slide and also probably wrong needle and jets. You should find more details on the site.

The amal reference catalogue lists 376/056 jet block, 376/100-200 main jet, 376/076-25 pilot jet 376/072-106 needle jet.

Hi.

After stripping the carb, i have discovered the pilot jet, main jet and needle jet are the correct numbers for my bike (as per Rupert Ratio manual) . The parts are old and have some kind of light green residue/corrosion on them.. I still cannot get a decent tick over and the carb is still burning rich which usually ends up in a flooded plug. I have spent days on tuning the carb and i still cant get the mixture right.

Would an amal 'repair kit' help? Or Is it worth going to the trouble of getting a new carb?

Unless the slide, body and jet block are severely worn the existing carb should be ok. What groove do you have the needle on, can you lower it to weaken the mixture.

Probably a leaking needle and seat for the float. Turn the taps off and see if it clears up when the fuel height is lowered as a test.

Two stroke and four stroke carb's are different and when ordering you need to specify which type the carb is for, sorry I don't know what the difference is but they are not interchangeable, possibly to do with internal airways fuel passages ETC.

Hi all.

I stripped the carb and cleaned it properly. I lowered the needle to the lowest possition. It started first time. I did a quick 10 miles today and the plug was dry as a bone. That's the carb problem dealt with.
