b31 cylinder head compatability
« on: May 24, 2011, 09:52:10 PM »
Hello everyone
First of all I've enjoyed browsing your site and found lots of advise and answers to questions thank you all.
I'm looking at changing the head on my 1952 b31 plunger as the finns on the head between the exhaust and pushrod tube although all there seem to be thin and I'm a little worried if the cooling will be ok.
It'll be the first summer riding a brit bike again since I was a young man.
Question is in the parts book the head part number is 65-1166 or 65-1226
The head on the engine is 65-1167
I've found a complete head in really good condition that looks the same but is part number 65-1701
I can't find out what engines the different part number heads are of but as they all look the same are they interchangable, will the 65-1701 fit on my engine number ZB31.26412

Don't know about part numbers but all the ironheads are interchangeable. Big fin, small fin.

Hi all
Just a thought as all the heads are interchangable! would the different part numbers have a different intake diameter
Do you think the thin finns will still cool the head enough.

Thanks Bob

one of the things done to the B31 B33 back in the 80,s was looking for a B32 b34 barrel and head as this would allow coversion to alloy head and better gas flowing.
other wise it will depend on the carb fitted to the B31 B33

Just fit it with an 8.5 piston and a couple of goldy touring cams and you'll get a free extra 5hp.( Well not free)!
