help in shropshire

hi , i have just bought a 1952 ariel vb600 the bike was running fine for one day but now it wont start , i am new to the 'british bike ' scene so any help would be greatfully recived .
 i have checked and there is a spark , i think the carb is flooding as there is petrol running out of the amal 276 carb .

if there is anyone in telford or surrounding area that can come and have a look at the bike that would be great ( i will pay for time and travelling )

Hello Carl,

it sounds like the float in your carb has stuck.  This would cause fuel to overflow into the carb and stop the bike from starting.  Often a tap to the float bowl will free it up, but its better just to dismantle thte float bowl and clean it out.  There is probably some dirt stopping the float from moving or preventing the needle sitting in it's bed.

thanks for the replies but i've got it sorted it was the float sticking and was flooding the engine

Carl,

Glad you found the problem. Just one thing to be wary of.  A sticking float can cause petrol to enter the engine and mix with your oil.  A sniff of your oil will normally tell you whether this has happened, but if you're not sure, its best to change the oil.
