James 225cc
« on: January 06, 2008, 04:19:21 AM »
I have acquired a James 225cc without frame no as a set of jap forks have been grafted to it and no removed in the process unless the number is somewhere else  on the frame. It has a swinging arm with early wheels not full width hubs.
Any information would be appreciated .
       Thanks Graeme.

The 225cc model James was called the "Colonel" and their top of the range road bike. The 225cc engine is the 1H Villiers and was their first "big" postwar engine. It was also their first to move towards a more modern streamlined egg look.

The simply wizard site is exactly what you need.
Cheers, Bob

I have a 1955 Francis Barnett 'Cruiser' powered by a 1H Villiers - theyre very simple, being an english two-stroke, but theyre not really made for off-road as this one seems to have been used for.
I can't tell you much about the James - at least, nothing that isn't in Roy Bacon's Villiers Singles and Twins - but if you want to know about the engine, just ask.
If you're chasing a gasket set, search 'villers 1h' on ebay - notice it's Villers, not Villiers
