BEST LOCTITE
« on: August 19, 2008, 10:34:31 PM »
I am in a bit of a pickle.

I am about to assemble the bottom end of my BSA DB32 engine, but i am wondering which loctite to use to trtain the ctankshaft roller bearings outer race in the crankcases, as there is very slight wear and also to stop the smaller ball bearing outer sleeve from turning in the crankcase which it has been doing. Ther is about a 1thou gap.

I am tempted to use the loctite 648 high temp, or do i go for the 271 stud and bearing fit?
I also have loctite sleeve and bush retainer (green in colour)?

Which is the best and strongest to give me piece of mind?

The 648 seems the strongest being reccommended for gearbox shafts etc, but is it any good for retaining bearings, even though it may be difficult to remove bearings in the future without excessive heat.

The 2 big roller bearings fit quite well into the crankcases but when fitting i will heat the cases up to ease fitment Will this effect the loctite because i want to put a drop on just in case of any movement.
