I have an old engineering book showing badly worn splines rebuilt with hard nickel plating[nickel phosphide?] and machined back to size.Im no longer in the trade, but I suspect hardchrome could easily be ground with CBN wheels, which I think are considerably cheaper than diamond.Of course, the development of polycrystalline diamond has made diamond wheels quite cheap too.Regards John.
