Netley Marsh Autojumble
« on: July 15, 2011, 04:07:21 AM »
Netley Marsh is on in about six weeks. I'm coming over for it, and any hints on how to approach it would be welcome. The main aim is to find an Albion model HM gearbox for my 1929 Excelsior.
Cheers,

Go to the Southampton area and look for signs for Netley.

Is the gearbox a bottom-mounted hand change three speed jobbie? If so, I may have one....

Unfortunately no. It is their 4 speed hand change lightweight box. It was introduced in 1929 and was usually found in 'de luxe' versions of various British two-strokes throughout the 1930's.

I've read it's possible to get tickets for Thursday when it's being set up but this isn't mentioned by the online ticket sellers. Does anyone know anything about this?

From personal experience Netley is not great for finding vintage stuff anymore, its more classic and modern. You're better bet may ne Beaulieu International Autojumble on the same weekend and only a few miles down the road

Agreed, Netley started as a bike friendly alternative to the rather second class treatment dished out to the bikes at Beaulieu.
Stuffed by its own success, the greed of successive owners and the final coffin nail of the involvement of Mortons Media, their  goons and jobsworths its gone quickly down the pan.

Certainly the vintage value of it has long gone.

Beaulieu may well be better hunting.

We're booked in at some place called Careys in Brockenhurst so it looks like Friday at Netley and Saturday at Beaulieu is the way to go.
Luckily management is tolerant of a little side trip down to the New Forest before we head off for the holiday proper on the Continong. If I could just convince her that freighting a bike over there and getting around on that would be great fun I'd be like a pig in clover.
