Oil Leak 1983 Honda 650 Nighthawk
« on: December 02, 2014, 07:42:12 PM »
Hi - Just joined the forum and would like some advise. I had removed the oil cooler and when I replaced it with just the O ring I get a bad leak. Any advise on using  a sealer along with the O RING.  What started out as a simple oil change has become  more complicated.
Thanks for any advise from those that have done this.
Rick

If the O ring in good condition it should not leak. Have you replaced it with an original or an aftermarket one? Some times the aftermarket ones are not quite the right size, and will leak. Have you checked where the O ring seats for any burrs or scratches? Do not use silicone as small bits can break off and get stuck in critical oil passageways and cause oil starvation which leads to big trouble.
