Thanks all, this problem is fixed. I did the selector adjustment and noticed the cover for clutch rod... was on wrong. The beveled side was reversed. So, going to second was also being interfered with by that. Thanks for the help!

I have a 1970 Royal Enfield Interceptor 750 with an Albion 4 speed w/neutral finder lever. All is good, but it pops out of second sometimes. Any wisdom on this?

Thanks for the ideas. Yes I know about the two bolts under the cylinders... haven't touched them, but may have to.
I will try cleaning and using a Loctite ultra low viscosity sealer...maybe even a wicking thread sealer.

I have the RE Interceptor running well, but have some oil coming from the split cases where it seals at the base of the cylinders. I didn't split the cases as part of this project...yet. Has anyone seen this before? The breather is clear and venting well. The oil is weeping from the area circled both in the front and the back.
There is no oil getting out of the push rod seals between the head and cylinder... they were just replaced and that area is as dry as a bone.
I can't detect any oil coming out of the bottom of the cylinders... they are well sealed. If I run a wire tie through the space between the bottom of the two cylinders... I get no oil on the wire tie.

Thanks... I was thinking along the same lines. It came off with an impact and 2 1/6th inch socket.

OK... so I'm tearing into this motor a little more than planned. The clutch pack is completely worn out and so is the primary chain and adjuster. I also noticed the drive chain sprocket on the trans is loose. The binding nut is not tight. So... I'll have to pull the primary case to get access to the nut... and I want to look at the Woodfuff key and key-way too - to see how worn it is from being loose.
So... Is the large 2 1/6 nut on the crank (behind the alternator/magneto) right or left hand threads? I does not say in my simple 55 page manual.

Yes Interceptor. I figured it out.... there's an alignment hole in the shaft and the case that you put a pin into... then you can remove the nut and push through the covers. Thanks
