British Bikes / Re: TR6 wet sumping
« on: July 23, 2011, 08:16:24 PM »
This will probably clear up when you have done a few miles, as there may be residual oil around the engine from the wet sumping. If this does not stop after a while then you will have to look for other causes. In the meantime don't let the oil breathe onto your rear tyre.

The engine is a British JAP, you can see the name on the bottom of the crankcase in one picture. I do not know what the bike is but it looks continental to me - maybe a French Terrot?
JAP sold their engines to many different manufacturers all over the Continent, as well as England.

Nobody has mentioned that the very unique toolbox just in front of the saddle springs, which is oval in section, & is the same on both bikes. Taking into account that one is circa 1929 & the other circa 1930, this would allow of some differences. I think the bike is definitely a Matchless (or AJS equivalent).

Maybe the source of the photograph would give us a clue. Did you take the picture yourself, & if so where? When? Etc.
Other wise where did you source the picture from?
The bike looks as though it has a galvanised finished!

If there are no markings at all on the coil terminals, then I don't think it would matter which way round they are connect. Where there no instructions with the coil? & what make is it?

Having just read what Cardan wrote, I agree it is even earlier than I first thought. I will try to do some research.

Your bike is probably around 1909 to 1911. CH is a Derby registration.

Someone somewhere will no doubt have Britax information on your rear lamp, but you will have to search autojumbles, surf the 'net or contact motoring book sellers to find what you want. Good luck!
