It looks like a Shooting Star, designated A7SS. Tha A7 came out in 1946 and I think ended in 1952.The A7 and A10 were similar in design the A10 was built using light weight material, and consequently a better bike. The bike you are showing has been chopped and changed.Good luck.    Sparks

Hi Simon,it looks like a 499cc SD as you suspected. They were based on the IR Fast Roadster that had four pushrod actuated valves,a central spark plug an aluminium piston, single inlet manifold and two exhaust outlets.  Sparks

Hi there,I was reading my book on "James" motorcycles, and could find nothing on a 75cc,however,there was a 98cc.It  was built in 1938 with a villiers engine,it was called the Autocycle.Basically a motorised bicycle.Hope this helps a little.

Hi Carl, I think this bike is older than you think it is.Excelsior made a Talisman in 1949 with a 244cc two stroke engine. In 1953 they came out with the Talisman Sport. In 1959 the engine size went to 328cc.Excelsior built bikes  for the military, a 98cc Welbike and the Sprite for the Corgi company. There was a 98cc Consort. These were from the war years,39-45.Good luck.  Sparks
