British Bikes / Re: Mystery Bike

Hello All
Thanks for your expert comments and detailed information  on this bike.  I have no information of my grandfathers military history other than this photo.  His love for bikes passed down to my dad and myself who both had bikes by the age of 11. My grandfather died at the age of 38 so I never met him.  Sorry for the shaving of the photo but the full size is around 1.5m to big for posting.  Rich I would be pleased to send the full photo to you if you let me know your e mail, my email is  andyw1260@lycos.com   the quality is so good you can see he was a heavy smoker by the state of his teeth.

 Thanks Again             Andy

Hello All

I have tried to identify my grandfathers world war 1 bike without success, I am not sure if it was a military bike but I suspect it was.  Can anybody give any clues about the make please.

     Thanks for your time    Andy

British Bikes / Re: cylinder fin repair
« on: November 18, 2008, 09:05:03 AM »
Hi Harry
Have used JB weld on my rat bike a Honda cb650. The  Head leaks oil all over the place when the 6mm rocker enclosure bolts go loose and strip the threads also used JB weld on the join of the head and rocker enclosure good results looks ok if you are blind.
Great success Jb weld takes heat and metal expansion ok and lasts for as long as you want.  Not sure about fins as there`s not a lot of meat to get going on with, may weld ok but could be fragile to a knock.
Most HT paints will be ok on a cylinder head, make sure the one you choose has the right finish flat, matt, gloss.    Andy

Hi TBS
Thanks for your time  can you say what year the inlet manifold changed from 1 1/8" to 13/16". If it changed in 69  I take it  years 63 to 68 were all the same size 1 1/8".
The last of the inlet stub with cycle threads were 68 is that correct.
Thanks again TBS     Andy

British Bikes / T120 Types of Cylinder Heads
« on: November 18, 2008, 09:19:16 AM »
Hi  I am after getting a T120 Unit Cylinder head around 1968. Can any body advise if the heads marked with a casting number e3663 are all the same. the push rod tubes seem different for 63-65.      66-68.   69-70. Is it just the tubes that are different or are the heads different.   thanks for your time          andy

British Bikes / Crazy Classic Bike Prices
« on: September 18, 2008, 11:49:56 AM »
What is going on with Classic bike prices in a downturn.  On an online auction site there is a 68  T120R import. with a current bid of £6600 the reserve price has still not been met. Just looking at the pictures of it you can see it`s a bitsa bike. £60Quid wheels, no oil breather back mudguard, bolts holding on tool side cover, 69 brakes, no transfers .  If you were to look the bike over you maybe would find other modern parts including metric bolts!
I believe restorers should have a set standard or maybe it`s buyer BEWARE.

I see your point of view,  I was mainly thinking of the Exhaust Stub pipe adaptor thread and do you know what threads were used there on a 67 USA TT head?
I have a lot to learn.
Thanks for your prompt reply Mr TBS     Andy

Hello All
Sorry to trouble you again about this T120 head but I have been told by an Americian Moto Shop that all TT and T120 heads had 16 UNF threads in the states and never got 26 CEI threads. The UK heads changed in 69 to UNF from CEI.
Can anybody confirm if this is true.
Thanks Again     Andy

Hi All
I am looking at getting a 67/68 T120 UK Cylinder Head I believe those two years are identical heads. But can the wise ones say what the difference is between a T120 head and a T120 TT head and is there any Difference with Between T120R and T120 heads.

British Bikes / Re: Rough casting finish T120
« on: June 02, 2007, 04:49:13 PM »
Hello TBS and thanks for your reply, my cases have had that rough surface taken off except next to the raised engine number step so at least I can prove the number is correct.
Why I raised the issue is that even beneath the engine the rough surface has gone.
Another point is that my cases show no sign of a join beside the engine number step (just forward of the primary chain oil filler point (which other T120s show also the join in the case 9 inches back of that at the fixing point which is standard still stands out clearly. Somebody had a lot of spare time on there hands years ago.
Lovely weather going for a ride today to find a country pub sit out side have a pint and eats and admire the bike how sad is that!!     Andy W

British Bikes / Rough casting finish T120
« on: June 02, 2007, 06:23:32 AM »
Hi all  could anybody please inform me of the type of finish the crank cases on a T120 1968 should have, should it be the rough finish you get after casting or a smooth semi polished finished.   I have seen both types so I wondered how they left the meriden factory.
Thanks for your  ???time      Andy W
