T140V CRANKSHAFT TROUBLE
« on: March 31, 2009, 10:14:10 PM »
I have just discovered some fairly bad wear to the keyway on the rotor end of my crankshaft. Is it time to look for a new crankshaft or is this something that can be fixed at my local engine machine shop?

You should be able to get this fixed, have a word with your local machine shop & show them the problem.

Get a price to get a new keyway cut, but you may find it cheaper to get another crank off Ebay and sell your old one for repair.

it may be possible unless the keyway is very badly damaged to have it enlarged slightly and then make a stepped key up to fit both the crank and rotor this is a cost effective way of salviging an otherwise good crank.
