Removing Eddie Dow Brake Plate

Aaagh.  Can someone please help me, I am feeling pretty stupid at the moment.
I have an Eddie Dow Duetto front brake fitted to my Gold Star.  I want to check the brake pad condition so have removed the front wheel.  But I cannot for the life of me see how to remove the brake plate from the hub.
I would have expected a central nut holding it on, but there is not one there. 
Is it a press fit?  I have given it a bit of gentle persuasion but no sign of any movement and do not want to force anything.

Does anyone have any experience of these?

Solution found...  I little more gentle persuasion needed...
Does anyone know where I can get some of the 2 inch wide brake shoes it uses?  Or will it be a case of getting them re-lined?
