BSA A10 Magneto points problem

I'm trying to set the points on a 1960 BSA A10 which is fitted with a Lucas K2F magneto, they are the later pressed steel type and not the earlier brass bodied type. Not having much success. Do you have to slacken off the central mounting bolt as well as the locking screw in order to adjust the contact breaker gap? Regards

You shouldn't have to. IIRC it's a ring cam type and once you've slackened the locknut the "fixed" point should be able to be turned.

It's the work of a moment to pop the whole lot out though so that's what I would do so you can see what's going on. Remembering of course that when you refit it to engage the tiny keyway....

It can be useful to slacken the central screw to centralise the assembly, which then helps to get the points gap both side equalised before you start, but after that leave it alone.
